Installation

Introduction

The installation of TelScope consists of the following steps - Preparation on shore (https://Telko.liveagent.se/495278-Shore-Preparation) Sets up the communication channel between the on board server(s) and the data center on shore. For a dual installation the communication channel between the on board is also prepared in this step. This requires general internet access and we highly recommend that this is done before installing the computers on board the vessel. - Physical installatio...

Shore Preparation

Before installing the TelScope computers on board, the shore connection must be initialized. For a dual installation, this must be done for both the TelScope computers. We highly recommend to do this on shore before installing the computers on the vessel. The server needs general internet access to complete this step. Accessing the configuration tool - Connect a display, keyboard and mouse to the computer and connect the computer to internet. - Turn on the computer. It will log in au...

IT Prerequisites

Shore Connection TelScope onboard on a ship communicates with a cloud based shore system. It exchanges data and receives updates of the operating system and the TelScope software. The TelScope servers onboard needs to communicate with our shore system, so the firewall must allow Telscope onboard to connect with the shore system in the cloud. The TelScope servers will then set up an (encrypted) VPN connection with our shore system and all access from our side is done through this VPN tunnel. ...

Physical installation

Installation Overview The following illustration provides an overview of mounting and wiring of TelScope. As a minimum, TelScope shall be connected to an IMO approved INS system or GNSS receiver (f.ex. GPS) for position and time. Mounting Monitor unit The monitor unit can be flush mounted in a console panel, or mounted on desktop using optional accessories. When selecting a mounting location, keep in mind the following points: - Select a location where the display unit can be v...

Server setup

The goal of the on board server initialization is to prepare the connections to the network(s) on board, the data sensors and the dual computer. The server initialization takes places in the config tool, so a display, keyboard and mouse must be connected to the computer. For details about how to access the config tool, see "Accesing the config tool (https://Telko.liveagent.se/495278-Shore-Preparation#accessing-the-config-tool)". When this process is completed, the TelScope software is ready to...

Collecting data from ECDIS systems

ECDIS systems are connected to at least GPS, Gyro and LOG typically also to other sensors like the Sounder and wind sensor. Most ECDIS systems are capable of sending this data through a serial port or over a TCP/IP connection, but this may require configuration of the system. TECDIS Applies To TECDIS: TECDIS Telscope 4.8.3.4 S.10 Or Later 1,0 Or Later Data Out: $PTLKC: Value Units Fetcher field ECDIS Palette (day/dusk/night) - ECDI...

TelScope setup

To make the TelScope system fully operational this following parts must be configured: - Set the ship time offset - Set up data collection. - Add roles - Add users and assign roles - Configure log books The system indicates that it is fully operational with a green symbol in the top left corner of the screen. If checklists have been prepared by the ship owner we recommend to add them at this point. - Add checklists
