ECDIS systems are connected to at least GPS and gyro and typically also to other sensors like the speed log and wind sensor. Most ECDIS systems are capable of sending this data through a serial port or over a TCP/IP connection, but this may require configuration of the system.
Can be configured to pass navigation data to a serial port or over network in IEC61162-450 format.
The following data fields are known to work:
- Position, course over ground, speed over ground
- Speed through water
- Water temperature
- Depth (midship, bow and stern)
- Wind speed and direction
- Working route
- Waypoint location (previous, current and next waypoint)
